  • 1 medium sweet potato, cubed (about 1 1/2 cup, 180 g)
  • 1 can chickpeas, drained (240 g)
  • 1/2 small onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 lime, the juice
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper (I used 1/2 tsp of each)
  • Optional: burger buns to serve

Suggested toppings

  • Mashed avocado
  • Grated carrot
  • Onion
  • Tomatoes
  • Hummus

  1. Cook the sweet potatoes in boiling water for 8-10 minutes or until soft. Let cool for a few minutes while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius (355 Fahrenheit) with the fan on.
  3. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and blend until everything is well combined.
  4. Use a spoon to scoop out 1/5 of the mixture and form it into a pattie with your hands.
  5. Make five equally sized patties and place them on a baking tray aligned with parchment paper.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until slightly golden brown and firm.
  7. Serve them in a burger bun with your favourite toppings or have them with a salad. Either way, enjoy!
  8. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-5 days or in the freezer for even longer. Simply reheat them in the oven for about 10 minutes.
